Biography
Former New Jersey educator Hakim Green has been a multi-dimensional force in the music industry for nearly three decades. Front man of the “true school” Hip Hop Group Channel Live, he is an artist, manager, A&R consultant, lecturer, educator and visionary. His group Channel Live, was discovered by the legendary KRS ONE and debuted in 1994 with the platinum, Hip Hop anthem “Mad Izm,” which was followed with the gold-status album “Station Identification.”
Hakim’s tree of life in the entertainment industry continued behind the scenes as an artist manager and consultant in the music and film industries. His consulting work with singer Carl Thomas and producer Mike City brought forth the smash hits “I Wish I Never Met Her” and “Make it Alright” off of Bad Boy Entertainment. He served as A&R consultant for the late Jeryl Busby’s Umbrella Entertainment and their 2007 release of Carl Thomas’ LP “So Much Better.”
Hakim’s creativity has also taken shape in visual form with Nas’ video “Got Yourself a Gun” which helped Nas and Sony music reach platinum sales with this Hip Hop classic. Some of Hakim’s other film projects include LL Cool J’s “Love You Better” and Nelly feat. Kelly Roland “Dilemma”. He was also an associate producer for the 20th anniversary release of “Scarface” a movie documentary distributed by Universal Pictures 2004.
In 2007 Hakim reunited with KRS ONE to re-launch the Stop the Violence Movement. This work has galvanized artists, educators, activists and other community leaders to collectively say, “Stop the Violence”. Currently this slogan has become the rallying cry for organizations across the nation and around the world.
Hakim continues his work, using Hip Hop Culture, to inspire and educate with his community based “for profit” organization 24HRS OF PEACE, INC., which began as a 24 hour concert/ festival of peace that was formed to support the anti-violence work of current Newark, N.J. Mayor Ras Baraka. 24HRS OF PEACE is about HIP HOP’s true principles of PEACE, LOVE, UNITY and SAFELY HAVING FUN! 24 HRS OF PEACE is 10 years strong and has become a tradition in the Newark community.As if that wasn’t enough, Hakim Green is continuously putting out music under his company MAD IZM, INC. A tribute to the classic CHANNEL LIVE/KRS ONE weed anthem. This company seeks to promote responsible use of this phenomenal plant we call cannabis or hemp.
Most recently, the album MAD IZM “Who Want This Smoke?” with guest appearances from KRSONE, Treach from Naughty by Nature and Carl Thomas; the web magazine “MAD IZM The Ultimate Cannabis Journal” , MAD IZM tv which highlights the cultural and artistic achievements of individuals in Hip Hop and Cannabis, and last but not least, MAD IZM SPORTS, a weekly roundtable discussion on sports and sports entertainment with a host panel including Dj Kay Gee from Naughty by Nature.,
